NYPI aims to innovate in LED high-value applications, from hazardous areas lighting to treating deme

These days, light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are being increasingly used as replacements for traditional lamps and many other electronic appliances. In fact, lighting alone is responsible for up to 20 percent of the world’s electricity consumption. As a result, the need to develop advanced LED materials and technology that produce more light while maintaining efficiency and reliability has become even more crucial in the industry. In many ways, Taiwan is a leader in the LED industry, since it tops global rankings for LED component output value, and continues to introduce various leading-edge technological advancements.

One such advancement is making LED lighting more multifunctional. Nowadays, In addition to being energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly, LED lighting can also be used to create atmospheres and ambiances that exceed people’s expectations. Products like wall showers, spotlights, track lights, display lighting, and decorative lighting, among others, offer an enormous array of color possibilities as well as continuous-color-fading capabilities and sensor-responsive-color-changing capabilities. More importantly, LED products made in Taiwan have become increasingly price-competitive. Take Nan Ya Photonics Incorporation (NYPI) for example. Since its founding in 2003, NYPI has been showing superior integration of resources in operation, production R&D, planning and promotion. With the completion of the full automatic assembly line and the entire product supply chain expansion, the industrial synergy is guaranteed to provide customers with comprehensive products and services.

This year, NYPI aims to innovate in high-value applications, especially in 3 particular fields: industrial lighting, hazardous area lighting, and healthcare facilities lighting.

Industrial facilities, for example showrooms, warehouses, factories, product lines, parking, loading docks, etc., present the unique challenge of providing sufficient illumination on work surfaces from luminaires with varying mounting heights and environments found in various industries. The environment may contain fumes, oil vapor, dust, moisture… and all of them tend to impair the optical performance of the lighting system. NYPI focuses on safety, energy efficiency, and especially maintained illumination efficiency with its industrial lighting products.

Operating as a subsidiary of Formosa Plastics Group with businesses ranging from oil refining, petrochemicals, plastic raw materials, fiber and textile, electronic materials, machinery, transportation, etc., NYPI knows the best the application of LED luminaires not only in different industries, but also in hazardous areas.

Potentially hazardous areas have high risk of explosion due to mixtures of gas/air, vapor/air, dust/air or other flammable combinations. In such areas there is a necessity to eliminate sources of ignition such as sparks, hot surfaces or static electricity which may ignite these mixtures. NYPI offers clients explosion proof lights for virtually all applications, from single lamps to floodlights, compact lamps or emergency lighting. In addition to offering standard and custom products suitable for potentially explosive atmospheres, NYPI is a quality partner for customized complete solutions in the field of explosion protected lighting technology. The team offers planning and project management and manufacture tailor-made lighting, customized lighting systems as well as complex emergency lighting system, and offers a comprehensive service in the field.

NYPI focuses its 3rd high value application on healthcare facilities lighting. Today many hospital and healthcare facilities discover the benefits of retrofitting outdated lighting solutions. The right lighting helps medical practitioners when they need it most all the while contributing the wellbeing of patients and at the same time reduce energy use and maintenance costs. Various studies have shown how innovative lighting designs and advanced smart technologies, including LEDs, photosensors and occupancy sensors, can help patients and seniors in long-term care facilities and hospitals maintain independence and be more comfortable.

In cooperation with Taiwan’s Chang Gung Memorial Hospital Dementia Center, NYPI’s team has installed LED products to simulate daylight to help treat symptoms of dementia. With its unique research-based lighting system, it is expected to support healthy sleep, alleviate anxiety, lift mood in patients and staffs, and improve patient experience in the center.
